Since 1985, Winslow Infrastructure, a subsidiary of Winslow Group, has been responsible for the ongoing management of drainage works at the RBR Project in Truganina.
  • The Challenge

Winslow Infrastructure had been using traditional diesel-powered DPU compaction units for drainage management. However frequent part failures and breakdowns meant the units were constantly being replaced or returned, leading to project delays, downtime, increased labour requirements, and significant cost overruns.
  • SOLUTION

The team at Opt Hire quickly assessed the problem and provided Winslow Infrastructure with a multifaceted solution in battery-powered compaction units. These units were faster to operate, more fuel- and cost-efficient, hence delivering a significant upturn in overall operational efficiency.
  • The results

There was a direct correlation between the switch and a significant reduction in project costs. This was attributed to the elimination of downtime caused by breakdowns, wear and tear, incorrect fueling, and fuel expenses.

Operations remained uninterrupted, as batteries could be quickly swapped with fully charged units. The solution delivered multiple benefits: zero emissions supporting sustainability goals; reduced noise and vibration; and, most importantly, enhanced safety for both operators and the environment. By removing the need for fuel, the risk of spills, contamination, and the safe disposal of used oil was eliminated.
